Become a Taxi Driver
Follow these concise steps to become one of our approved operators and start your journey with Canberra Taxi Careers.
- Australian Driving Licence: You must have a full Australian Driver's License.

Required Authorities:
- In Canberra (ACT): You need to go to Access Canberra to get a T-condition on your ACT license, and apply for a WWVP card (Working With Vulnerable People) and a taxi authority card. This also applies if you come from another state or country.
- In NSW: The process is the same, but you must go to NSW RMS. If you are from another country, you must also produce your passport.
- Business Registration: You must go to the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) or post office to apply for an ABN (Australian Business Number).
- Training & Jockeying: You must do at least 15 hours of Jockeying in a taxi with an approved operator. Learn and understand the MTI Dispatch system, the PAX payment system, and the Shadow Meter. You must view a short training video and your operator must fill in a jockeying form.
- Code of Conduct Briefing: You must attend a short Code of Conduct briefing as part of the induction process to ensure you understand the standards of behaviour expected while working as part of the Company.
- Final Submission: Once the above sections are completed, fill out the "NEW Driver Form" and bring everything to the base. You will be given a PIN to access the dispatch system (this PIN is NOT to be shared with anyone).
Additional Notes: Taxi uniforms are available at the base. To be part of our Silver Service Team under Canberra Taxi Careers, you will require a clean driving record for more than 12 months. ALL drivers are answerable to their operators.
You will need to download the New Taxi Driver Information Pack as part of Canberra Taxi Careers to complete the Jockeying Log, which must be presented at the induction session.
